File uploads

Let people attach files to their answer, and what happens to those files.

A File upload question lets people attach documents or pictures, for example a CV or a photo of a receipt.

Add a file question

  1. Under Add a question, press More types, then File upload.
  2. Open More options and set Files allowed, from 1 to 5.
  3. Turn on Required if every response needs a file.

What people can upload

  • PDF, PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF images, plain text, CSV, Word (.docx) and Excel (.xlsx).
  • Up to 10 MB per file. Empty files are refused.
  • Uploads only work while the form is live and open. A closed, full or scheduled form refuses them.

Who can open the files

Files show inside the response in Results, for you and your collaborators. Press a file to download it. A download link opens the file for whoever has it, so share it with the same care as the file.

Files are not sent to connected apps, and the integration API and the ChatGPT app cannot add file questions.

Files in exports

Excel, CSV and JSON exports show how many files a person sent, for example 2 files. The files themselves are not in the export. Open a response to download them. See Export responses.

When files are deleted

  • A file uploaded by someone who never sends the form is removed after about a day.
  • Deleting a response, deleting a form, or Delete responses after in privacy settings removes its files too.
