Unfinished responses
What collecting unfinished answers stores, when it saves, and what it means for privacy.
Normally Chaos stores nothing until a person presses submit. With Collect unfinished responses on, Chaos also keeps the answers of people who start but do not finish. It is off for every new form.
Turn it on
- In the builder, open Settings, then More settings, then Responses.
- Turn on Collect unfinished responses and press Save.
When answers are saved
- A few seconds after a person answers or changes a question, their answers so far are saved as an unfinished response.
- When they submit, the same response becomes a finished one. Nothing is counted twice.
- If they never submit, it stays unfinished until you delete it or your Delete responses after period removes it.
Privacy
- People see a note on the form saying that you can see unfinished answers.
- Unfinished answers can hold things a person typed and then chose not to send. Only turn this on when you need it, and say why in your introduction.
- They are separate from Continue on another device: those private copies are never visible to you.
- Unfinished responses do not trigger webhooks, notifications or response counts, and connected apps never see them.
Where you see them
In Results, filter Status to see them. The Summary shows where people stopped. Exports leave them out unless you turn on Include unfinished responses. See Export responses.
